He was a genuinely nice, laid back guy who enjoyed making others feel happy.

It seems too soon to have a margarita in his honor. So we'll do that next weekend. RIP Jimmy.

Merkel cell ca? It doesn't change what I said about being related to life in Margaritaville, since Merkel cell ca is also from sun exposure, like melanoma.

Well, I WAS responding to someone else and NOT saying anything about changing what you said...

For those who want specifics...
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-...ad%20or%20neck.
Researchers recently discovered that a common virus plays a role in causing most cases of Merkel cell carcinoma.
While exposure to sunlight isn't proved to cause Merkel cell carcinoma, it is considered a risk factor for this cancer.

It is not treated like a melanoma, either.
DH was in oncology. What Buffet had was extremely rare and difficult to treat.

And can be very difficult to find because it can stay small from what I understand—often be overlooked
My husband is prone to skin cancer and is very careful to have a full physical scan every six months

I just wonder how often Buffett saw a dermatologist prior to his diagnosis—
Was in treatment for last 4 years…

He lived a good life. 76 was way too soon but it also wasn't tragically young.

I would imagine that Jimmy had grown up on the Gulf Coast and had been in the sun his entire life. You don't really think about skin cancer screenings when you live life on the beach.

His skin cancer was discovered in 2019 so he had been living with it for a while. It sounds as though he was hospitalized after a trip to the Bahamas in May and within a couple of months he was on hospice.

One thing that I think is interesting is that he went out with something commonly associated with one of his favorite things, sunshine.

Hurricane Idalia ravaged the beach near us. A big sign was up stating, “Come Monday, it’ll be alright.”

Made me smile.

Why do people these days always "battle" something rather than just have it or die of it?

But I guess that's another question for another day!

R.I.P., Jimmy.
