There is a benefit available called Veterans' Aid and Attendance Special Pension...google it for more info. Many people are not aware of this benefit and with the economy the way it is, well, I hope this might help those in need.

Thank you for calling our attention to this. My husband is an 82 year old veteran and may be in need of this service before too long. I will talk to our VA officer about this. He has been working with us for several years.

He needs to require one assistance with daily living like toileting, dressing, ambulating, bathing, meals or be unsafe left alone. Sometimes the VA reps aren't very knowledgable about how things should appear on the application and there are adjustments that can be made if you're over the asset limits. I would be happy to find someone in your area to help you if you'd like. You can contact me at carlotta@agingavenues.com

It is great, but if your income is over a certain amount then you get nothing. The income level was very low. I wished we did more for our veterans.

If your VA rep isn't familiar with the program, most larger in-home providers are. They make it their business to know all the ways they can get paid.
Ideally your local AAA (area agency on aging) should be able to give you the name of someone who can help you.
I have found, it is a great program for vets whose income and/or assets are just a little too high to qualify for Medicaid.
