I won't be retiring for another few years, but I have begun researching the possibilities. I would like to retire in a small to medium size college town in E. PA. It must be walkable or have a walkable, vibrant, pedestrian friendly downtown with mixed uses and choices for housing and shopping within a 5 to 10 minute walk. The college must be in close proximity to housing, preferably within walking distance or close by bus or shuttle so I can take courses there and/or volunteer. The cost of living and housing must be reasonable. It must have a variety of cultural activities, good health care, low crime and be linked by rail to New York City and Philadelphia with travel time no more than 1 hour. Does anything like this exist in that area?

Look into the Lehigh Valley - Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton and some of the smaller towns on the outskirts of these towns. The best fit may be near Layfayette or Lehigh.
