So, my jaw is currently banded shut and I have a splint. On a liquid only diet for a couple weeks, but craving a good burger in the worst way. As soon as I can eat real food again, want to hit up the best burger joint in the area. Anything within an hour or so drive from me (Fall River)
I LOVE LOVE 5 guys- but they are a chain and even had them in Ohio. Is there really no one better than them? (but damn- they are awesome and their fries...so good) Looking for a more local spot since this is our last year in NE
Burgers are small but mouth watering (and you won't re-injure your jaw), just order 2 if you have an appetite (they are cheap). One of the few places around that serve poutine, yes fries are to die for as well!
Just remember to lock your car when there!

Hamburgers in New England are problematic. Most places make them too plain- just meat on plain buns (some even call them "a hamburger sandwich"). I noticed even Stanley charges extra for lettuce and tomato which should be included.
I have to admit I got spoiled when I lived in Texas- that is one thing they definitely do right in Texas- never had a better burger.
One I'll eat round here is at Outback Steak house ( a chain I know) but they do make a decent burger.
Yes, indeed, Five Guys are a chain. I'm usually not a big fan of chains and I was skeptical myself. But they do serve the best burgers around here in my opinion.

if it is any help, they started with one store in Maryland. They weren't always a chain! Love that they offer vinegar for the fries! Although I would prefer white over malt.

I actually think their burgers are a bit overrated, great for fast food but only average otherwise. Their fries I agree are excellent, and no one needs more than a small!
I know what you're going through. I came back from the west coast and missed the In and Out burger chain they have out there. I went to Five Guys in Lincoln and was very disappointed, (too much meat, and the fries were awful) and left behind about $12 for it. Went to Johnny Rockets once, and was very impressed but cost $16, way too much; went to Johnny Rocket's again, and it was awful. After that, I rediscovered Wendy's. I was amazed how good it was. I hadn't been there since the 90's, and was thoroughly impressed. The soda machine there has over 100 flavors as well, I tried the Raspberry Coke and thought it was better than any soda I've had in a long time. I thought Wendy's was so good, that I may not visit another McDonald's or Burger King for a very long time. Also, I heard they might be building a new Wendy's' where the old Bickford's was on Reservoir Ave in Cranston.
