Schools are a big issue on resale, especially in the OP's price range. Agreed that RI has very good healthcare, but RI also has a problem with physicians not taking on new patients. Then there is the issue of RI's poor economy, high taxes, corruption. Surely the OP is astute enough to read all of the RI threads on this forum. However, if the OP's wife has landed a great job in Woonsocket, then Cumberland or Lincoln would serve them well. Franklin MA also, very close to the RI border with a 'real' downtown.
Resale on east side of Prov is very good regardless of schools. There is a doctor shortage in the US- most parts of the country harder to get an appt than here. MA, as we all know, of course, has zero political corruption or high taxes .
Read the OP again, they are only reluctantly considering suburbs. Franklin, although nice, has high house prices and a very small downtown. Not a bad choice, but still a compromise choice…. but I'm sure the OP will get that.
No such town as Neponset. And Stoughton's not pretty.
I agree with Franklin, though. It seems the best location for him and his wife.
Well, they'd better remove the "Neponset" exit sign off Rt. 95 North.
The OP will certainly have a good Realtor to guide them through this process. Many people who work in Woonsocket (CVS, etc.) live in Cumberland or Lincoln, both beautiful areas with very nice subdivisions, civic pride, great highway access and competent town management. Speaking from experience. If they need a "downtown" fix, entertainment, dining etc., it's only 10 miles to the center of Providence. Boston on the other hand has much more culture, fine dining, historic qualities, things to do and see, and more progressive government.

There is a Neponset Street exit (11) off Route 95 at the Norwood/Canton line where the Neponset River crisscrosses the highway. There is no town by this name.
Franklin is a nice town but I think it limits commuting options being on 495. I personally think the best commuting option is close to the Route 95/495 junction. You have the MBTA option into Boston with a station in Mansfield. You also are able to drive up either 95 or 495 to jobs. The 95/128 corridor has a lot of jobs so you will want to be able to easily get there. I suppose that a home in the NE corner of Franklin (close to the borders of Norfolk or Wrentham) might work for this but other parts of the town would not.

OK then, the "Neponset area" leading into Norwood/Canton ... nice 'area', jump on the highway.
Foxboro also has some beautiful sections, and a pretty town. Nothing wrong with Attleboro or North Attleboro either, several Patriots live there. One in particular 'used' to live there.
thanks all, some great responses and advice. Will likely push for east Providence!
Let me be the first to point out what everyone else surely will soon enough: "East Providence" is not the same thing as "the East Side of Providence." The East Side is a neighborhood (or, more accurately, a collection of neighborhoods) in Providence; East Providence is an independent city that borders the East Side. What you likely want is the East Side.

It isn't even "the 'Neponset' area" - that's in Dorchester!
