But it's a much longer (and more expensive) ride, and you have no train option.
First, I didn't see the OP mention any use of a train.
Second, let's pick Auburn, for instance. Auburn to Boston - about an hour. Auburn to Woonsocket - about half an hour. He also doesn't have a job in Boston. He "has to find work", and is assuming it will be easier in greater Boston. But, it also might be in Framingham, who knows? Lots of white collar financial types in Metro West.
The 146 corridor is an alternative the OP may want to consider, as he has already been given the alternatives of NW RI, and the 95 corridor.

OP didn't mention transportation, but if one plans to commute to a financial job in Boston they will learn very fast to rely on the train.
If the OP is purchasing based on where his best chances of finding employment is, then they are right to focus on proximity to Boston. If he beforehand lands a job in Framingham, say; then they would be better off somewhere like Franklin. The only way Auburn makes sense, is if he finds a job in Worcester or environs.
Thanks all for more sound advice. Heading up in the next couple weeks to check out the area. We will probably rent until I'm able to find a job. Would love to find something closer to Providence, but I'm not seeing much. Most of what I'm seeing is in Westborough, Waltham, Cambridge, etc. So I'm guessing those options would put me in the 95/495 area, which frankly sounds awful. Just hate the thought of being in the country burbs.

The good news is that nothing in New England is far, so if you settle in a "rural" area, on weekends and/or off peak times when you need a "cultural fix", you can easily access Providence or Boston without a hassle from any of the areas mentioned.
I've had some early opportunities in Waltham, Cambridge, and even Foxborough. Waltham and Foxboro certainly seem doable from Providence?
You may be looking at just the miles. Check out actual drive times during normal rush hours. Foxboro is definitely doable, as you don't get much traffic until after the 95/93 split. Unfortunately, Waltham and Cambridge are after the split. It's a crapshoot at that point whether it will be another half hour, or an hour and a half.. you just never know.
Seems like my problem is a common one. One spouse working in Woonsocket while the other has to drive towards Boston. Frustrating that a Fortune 20 Company like CVS would choose to locate themselves in the middle of nowhere backwater Woonsocket.
