taking the ferry from anyplace other than Pt. Judith limits you in a choice of leaving times. Pt. Judith is nowhere near Newport as it is on the west side of the bay. I-95, Route 4, Route 1 will get you there. Google Pt. Judith. There are two types of ferries. Fast, more expensive and much quicker, and reg service. Less expensive. Google Block Island Ferry. A ride from Boston will be about 1 hr 40 minutes. Block Island has been noted as one of the last natural wonders of the world. It is a stopping point for nearly all migrating birds.
Also from Boston take SE Expressway to Route 24 to Newport and then take 138 (Newport and Jamestown Bridges) to the west bay. Take Route 1 south.
