Hi I'm thinking of reloccating to rhode island or mass I curently live in Memphis tn right now I'm in retail managment but have a strong background in floral design event planning as well as wedding work I'm really looking for a change of scenery and I'm open to many different types of jobs if I don't transfer with my job now. As well if they pay enough to survive in your area Can anyone help me find some resources so I can make my dream of living in either place come true thanks!
Providence, greater- would surely have opportunities for you. Providence is a fun city; best suggestion is to visit the area and get the feel. Also consider Hartford CT and area, as well as New Haven, where the economy is slightly better.
I would suggest visiting Connecticut and Rhode Island. Stop in the New Haven area, and then greater Hartford- then Providence. The distances are short, so you could spend a few days in each place to scope things out.
Greater Hartford ranks as the 20th best place ib the US and Canada for visual & performing arts- Yale has a huge presence in New Haven, while Providence has the Rhode Island School of Design and Brown Univ.
Thank you so much! That is very helpful. This site is awesome are these places somewhat affordable to rent apartments? I know I Memphis where I am now its probably a lot cheaper
Housing prices will be considerably higher from what you're used to. An average 1 bedroom apartment in some mediocre area will run you around 700 dollars. As usual, you can find deals. Also, consider cost of heating when you do your budget. One good thing though, we got lots of empty rentals at the moment so you can pick and choose.
One more thing though...if you plan to move to RI be advised that the economy and job situation around here is rather abysmal at the moment, especially for those who don't have a clearcut career path. I probably repeat myself but I cannot stress this enough: Look for a job and try to make arrangements before you get here or do ensure that you'll have enough savings to keep you afloat for a couple months while you look for work around here.
Rhode Island is a more affordable than Mass; I suspect you're looking for a ummm..more supportive environment? Providence does have a large gay community, with many gay bars/nightclubs. If you like working in retail management, I don't think you'll have trouble finding a job. We have a lot of stores and malls.
I'm definitely going to have a job lined up before I get there retail managment isn't the most lucrative position to be in at the moment and it has its ups and downs and yes I'm looking for a more supportive environment! Lol I think anywhere is more supportive than Memphis
