Moving to Rhode Island - schools/community in Scituate? (Narragansett: buying, high school)

Our family of six is considering a move to RI. I have not lived there since high school graduation 20 years ago. We are leaving a top rated school system in Connecticut and need a town with excellent schools. We have a child entering 9th grade so this is the most important consideration. I went to school in East Greenwich, but will not be buying in this town because of price. I have heard that the schools in Scituate are up and coming and the scores are good. I have family connected with the school systems and was told that Narragansett, Exeter/West Greenwich, South Kingstown and Scituate are the best if you cannot afford E.G. What is Scituate like as a community? I am ashamed to admit I have never been there. I love the Hill and Harbor area of E.G. and would love to find th is in another town. We do not want a rural area. We could also cross the border into Ct. or Massachusetts. We would like to stay under 500k. Thanks!
