I have a job possibility working for Henrico County. Was really looking forward to the possibility, but have been told by several people that it is not a good thing... Have been told that there are quite a few lay off's, and that Henrico is a good ole boy mentality, and it is who you know not what you know.... so no security etc... Wanting to have some unbiased opinions... Thanks so much for any input

You are looking for working for the County itself? I hope you took the job. The pay is great, the benefits are good.

Every place has a "good old boy" mentality. It does not matter where you go, it's there. Politics are politics.

Maybe those that warned you have applied themselves. The county is very solvent with leaving jobs unfilled used as a method to avoid lay offs. If it's what you want take it, I don't think you'll regret it.

I wouldn't worry about it. I worked for Henrico County for several years (leaving about 2 years ago) and one thing the county prided itself on was never, ever having had a layoff in the hundreds of years Henrico has been in existence. It was an excellent organization and I enjoyed my time working there.
