I may be moving to Richmond in January and I have been looking at one bedroom apartment online. I have found some that looked nice but once I checked the reviews they were almost all bad. Any suggestions??? Some of the ones I've looked at are River lofts, The Wedge, Todd loft, The Upper loft, American Tobacco Center, and The Flats.

Some of my criteria are: W/D in unit, hardwood floor (preferred), modern/new, clean, safe, and quiet. Is it even possible to find an apartment that is in downtown area, within walking distance to the bars, safe, and quiet???

Thank you so much!

Pohlig Box factory is very neat and has great reviews. It's not new, but it's sort of modern (updated kitchens and bathrooms) with a lot of character (exposed brick, some units with original wide plank hard wood floors). Superior Apartments is right next to Pohlig and I think owned and managed by the same people. The River Lofts don't get good reviews and I was hesitant when one of my family members chose an apartment in the Lucky Strike building, but she loves it. It's a really neat apartment, her maintenance requests have been resolved quickly, she hasn't noticed a noise problem, has underground parking, etc. Her kitchen and bathrooms are awesome and the unit has a ton of character. Also, the River Lofts have a lot of amenities if that sort of thing appeals to you.

Thanks, sls76! Pohlig Box factory does have really good reviews. Lucky Strike looks really good but I can't get pass the bad reviews! I'm glad your relative has a good experience there. I guess I will have to check it out and judge it for myself.

What about the Main Street Realty? Heard anything about them?

Also, anyone know anything about The Wedge, Todd loft, The Upper loft, American Tobacco Center, The Flats, or Atrium Loft?

Sorry, the only units she looked at were in the River Lofts and Pohlig Box Factory. I agree about the reviews--probably would have been a deal breaker for me, but she's been a renter for 20+ years and she felt like the complaints were petty and noise wasn't a common problem which is a major concern for her. The thing I like about Pohlig was the woman who managed it lives on site and had been there for quite a while and she seemed extremely competent.

I wouldn't put much stock in the reviews. Only bitter people waste their time writing reviews. I haven't seen them but I assume that there are only a few listed. A few out of the hundreds, thousands that have lived in those apartments. Trust your own instincts when you visit the places.

Fan and carytown have a lot of apartments that would suit, as might Carver and Oregon hill. Not complexes though, individuals. Check craigslist
