I am planning on moving to Henrico County for work in the future.
I've only driven around through it in I-95.

Does anyone know what areas are safe and single family homes/townhouses are in the under $190,000 range in Henrico County?

Henrico is generally a safe area, but doors should be locked, some breakins have been occuring. Eastern Henrico is not as desirable as the western part. I am really not sure what prices are there, they vary quite a lot, but I think closer you get to Innsbrook the higher things are. Can you go to real estate websites for prices, by zip code?

I don't know Henrico County zip codes. I just enter Richmond, VA since it takes up most of the county.

Yes. My favorite site is realtor.com, put in a zip code, or name of city/state, or even drill down via the map option.

You can adjust for all sorts of criteria, like SFH or TH or Condo, or all of them, or just land, or waterfront, or....etc. You can specify min/max prices, the number of BR's, square feet, the list of discriminating characteristics is excellent. Homes fitting closest to your profile will show first. You can set up a free account and save listings for later return, etc.

I've used it for years, with great success. No one ever calls you or bothers you or spams you. Only when we asked the listing agent about a certain home did we ever hear back. It was a great success for me.

I'm not a realtor in any way.

Realtor.com is sadly out of date, as it is not updated as frequently as the actual MLS. It also does not show you any information on the status... whether the house is active (available), pending (has a contract on it), or sold.

The best way is to find a local real estate firm and use their "Search the MLS" feature, which often drills directly into the local MLS database.

Try this search:
http://www.richmond.com/realestate/index.cfm (broken link)
it claims to be taken directly from the Central VA MLS.

http://www.timesdispatch.com/

These sites are local papers with classifieds. Style is generally geared more for city but it gives you a feel for things...

Anyone know about Midlothian, VA? Is it generally a good town?
Is 288 a congested road during rush-hour? I would think of living in Midlothian. How are the schools there?
Google has it listed as a 30 minute commute into Henrico County.
