I'm interested in information about Beatties Mill Pond in Mechancsville, VA. Is it clean? Do people swim in it? What about the history of the Mill. I've tried to research it on the internet but no luck. Thanks!

Check out the Mechanicsville library. You can swim in the pond, but more fun to fish in.

My grandfather, John Beattie, and his brother had a corn milling operation there. I can still remember the smell of the inside of the mill. We used to go fishing just about everyday in the summer when we were there. I sure do miss him.

I spent many a day at the mill. When I was young, my dad and some of the other guys that worked for John and David Beattie took chicken wire, ran it across the drop for the water that powed the mill to keep us slipping down the drop. They also took 55 gallon drums and made a floating deck to climb up on when we were swimming or fishing in the pond. My dad used to keep a small paddle boat at the pond to go out further in the center to fish. I remember him and Francis. I used to occassionally stop by to visit after he had passed.

Default My emembrance of Beattie Mill

I used to go to school with Mary Beattie. She came to my house on a double date. My mom figured it out that Mary's family owned the mill and pond. Beattie's Mill Corn Mill was my Mom's favorite. I wonder if the mill is still there. I remember going there once.
