My husband is retiring early this year and we are looking at moving out of Chicago to either Franklin or Floyd County. He may do some part time work but unfortunately I have to work full time. I am a secretary with computer skills and was wondering where the best place to find a full time job would be - the Roanoke area or Blacksburg/Christiansburg area?

You should be able to find work in either. Christiansburg has really been building up and Blacksburg is a college town so there are plenty of jobs available. Roanoke might have a little more available, but you shouldn't have a problem finding a job in either area. It might help to keep an eye on the classified ads online for a while to make a better judgment. The Roanoke Times is Roanoke's paper.
Good luck!

If you are still considering Floyd, you might do well to go on Va Tech's website Virginia Tech | Invent the Future and click on thier employment links. There is usually a good amount of admin type positions. CareerBuilder is another good resource for Admin/Secretarial jobs with the many university associated research companies.

I have to rain on the parade, but I think I need to mention this. When ever the organization I work for have been looking for new secretaries/receptionists we always get about 10 applications a day.

While 50% of them are not really qualified, it still makes me wonder what the job market is like for anyone profession.

Thanks for all the information everyone! While I appreciate your honesty, 10 applications a day doesn't worry me too much. When we have job openings here we get about 100! I think the job market everywhere is pretty bad, unfortunately.
