St. Patrick's Day has always been big in Sacramento, due to the region's early Irish influence. St. Patrick is the patron saint of the Diocese of Sacramento, and when the feast falls on a Friday in Lent, the bishop usually dispenses Catholics from the obligatory fast and abstinence.
