I know someone () with property in Glenn County. A nice home on some acreage. Irrigated pasture, fruit trees, ultra-deluxe custom-built chicken house. Tell me about yourself ...

Glenn County is sparsely populated (28K), quiet, friendly, unpretentious, family-oriented and conservative, with relatively low crime for California. You can leave your doors unlocked for years and nothing happens.

What is your budget, how many acres, what type of house, do schools matter? Lots of places from Shingle Springs and East of there. Same goes with Loomis and East. I'm sure there are plenty of places around once you get 30 miles or so outside downtown.

There are a lot of great properties near Chico/Oroville/Bangor and pretty much anywhere in between. If you already live in the country, you know that you will get some really great people and the one or two odd folk (regardless of where you are). You will also want to work with a local realtor and ask about the local population. Some of these hill folk are known to grow MMJ or even produce Meth...so be informed. If your realtor doesn't address your concerns head on, find a new one.

While I am not overly familiar with the schools in Chico/Oroville (or if you even care about schools) but I do know that Bangor has a great elementary school (I believe it is K-8, but I'm not positive).

The real farmers and horse people live in and around Orland, Willows and Corning. I live in Chico and it fits my Urban needs. Oroville is trash, high crime! The cities I listed are close to chico and have some quality country people into animals.
