Even the Onion can see how retarded the Sacramento County NiMBYs are when it comes to paying things to make the area better/safer. Build a dam in Auburn to provide relief to the undersized/under qualified Folsom Dam, that will assuredly kill countless thousands when (not if!) it ultimately fails? NO! There's like, trails up there! And it's pretty! We don't want a bunch of water taking up out trails!

I just hope my family isn't around when Folsom goes. And I hope all of the people who fought virulently against Auburn Dam are in Rancho Cordova the day the dam fails.

SAFCA :: Sacramento Regional Flood Control Agency

Tim Washburn on the history and future of Sacramento's flood control system | MAVEN'S NOTEBOOK

Sacramento's Flood Risk / Survey of 8 cities lists it as most susceptible - SFGate. Pay particular attention to the list of cities also mentioned on the risk page

I can't seem to find it now, but I read somewhere before that, in the 1970s when the US Army Corps of Engineers conducted the studies of our flood risk mentioned in the 2nd link I posted, they came to the conclusion that a failure of Folsom Dam would result in upwards of 250,000 casualties! This was at a time when the Sacramento region had only 1 million residents!

You got it, CeJeH. But I think they are in downtown/Midtown/East Sacramento rather than "Raunchy Cadaver"....Either way, it would be a karmic flushing, a political enema.....

Sorry if that came off wrong. Didn't say I want anybody to die of even get hurt, I would just want them to see firsthand the damage that would be caused by their bickering and fighting about recreation vs safety with regards to the Auburn Dam. Folsom is not sufficient, and our levees are not sufficient enough to protect us from a big storm that comes our way. The last 2 record floods we had in 1986 and 1997 had the hardest spots hit north of us, and caused much larger damage in Sutter County and areas north along the rivers. We were technically spared, and still had major damages, nearly catastrophic. If either of those storms had hit us dead on, we would have seen levee breaks in the city and Folsom would have been in a LOT of trouble.

Sorry if it came off wrong I'm just passionate.
