I just love love Monica Woods, Great Meteorologist!

This is a very very through forecast, great for weather nerds!

Love the snow line graphic at 8:13 to 8:43 in the video.

Hi, chim.

"Models are quickly trending towards a Pacific jet extension developing towards mid-March that could bring multiple significant, possibly warm atmospheric rivers to California.

This could have significant implications for flood potential and California’s snowpack. Stay tuned"

Scary, seriously, scary.

--------

50 and 80 were closed so I couldn't go to Tahoe today; however, and on a lighter note,

I drove up to Nevada City, CA (2,500 ft. elevation) -- Despite all the warnings against Sierra travel -- I wanted to see for myself that town get a full foot of snow as it came down.

Nevada City is lovely and very wooded, tons of snow. From Sac, I took Highway 50 to Folsom (220 ft. elevation), to Folsom-Auburn Rd to Auburn (1,200 ft.), a beautiful route. In Auburn, I got on Highway 49. Auburn did not have snow, but about 8 miles north the snow began pretty heavily a few miles before Grass Valley (2,400 ft.).

Grass Valley is another lovely town; it had full on snow about 1/2 foot on the ground everywhere. When I got to Nevada City many folks without AWD were stuck on the side of the road.

I made it to Nevada City Broad Street, pulled out the snow shoes and joined a cross-country skier as he skied down Broad Street, .

On my way back I stopped on Main Street Grass Valley, again, a few cross-country skiers were trekking through the town. Continued on Highway 49, no snow until I got to the town of Cool (1,500 ft.), and finally made it to Placerville (1,800 ft.) where there was 1/2 foot of snow.

Gorgeous scenery, big Oak trees and vineyards covered in snow. Some gorgeous scenes of the contrast of Green Hills, green meadows with snow all around. The Sierra Foothills have not seen this amount of snow so widespread in 5-10 years.

When I left Sacramento it was 42F; Folsom 40F; Auburn 38F, Grass Valley 36F, Full on snowing at 35F, Nevada City 33F, snowing heavily. Placerville 34F.

"Context: Individual operational runs of certain weather models are depicting a very strong/warm storm for parts of CA in ~9-10 days. BUT there are two huge caveats: first, this is over a week in future, & second, only about ~20% of ensemble members indicate such an event! #CAwx"

Freeze warning so odd to have this record rain and cold so late in the winter/early spring. I really hate it!

^^^

I've seen these graphics often but they never tell you how much snow each region averages to be considered X% of average.

I do know that in the Northern Sierra Sugar Bowl can average 500 inches per year.

and that,

in the North-Central Sierra at Kirkwood averages 360 inches per year.

in the Southern Sierra Mammoth averages 400 inches per year. (Mammouth's is at very high elevation hence the large accumulations).

_____________

Grass Valley (2,400 ft. elevation) has twice the amount of snow on the ground than when I was there yesterday!

Looks like 2-3 feet thats alot for a low elevation. (The Vegas Strip is of a similar elevation, can u imagine it getting 3 feet of snow, never happened).

You could just move to Panama and then save everyone here from your whining.

Or, put on a sweatshirt.

^^^^ Or turn up the thermostat to somewhere north of 64 where he says he keeps it now. Or dress for where he lives now, not where he lived then. Native San Diegan here now in West Roseville so I know whereof he speaks. When in Rome and all that . . .
