I am taking advantage of cooler temps today to work in the backyard to update my broken irrigation system. Digging in the dirt and doing my own sprinkler repairs is fun process and saves a ton of money. I had local repair guys want mega bucks to fix sprinkler issues so i learn to do myself.

Good for you Mix,
bend with your knees not your back

We missed the hotter temps last week in California but made-up for it in the Utah outback as I almost passed-out from heat exhaustion on an hour long hike.

I was minutes away from likely passing out on a trail but made it to the car where I got a full blast of cold air from a/c and kept drinking Gatorade/water and ate some salty snacks. It took me about 1hr, 15 mins with the cold a/c blasting on me, just sitting in the car, I couldn't do anything, just sat there until I finally felt better. That was a close call. We were able to finish other very short walks in the National Park for the remainder of the day, but on the way back out of the National Park there was an EMT truck with paramedics working on some young person who went in the canyon after me.

Arent those sunshine hours really out of date? Like over 30 years out of date. Take them with big grains of salt.

I havent verified it yet, but the local news has been showing some insane cooling in los banos this year. Merced/modesto high temps, but san jose low temps. Impressive stuff for being so far from the delta.

Interesting, I looked up the sunshine data, and it looks like indeed, the NOAA has been phasing out Sunshine sensors over the last few decades. I did find another source through 2004 that put Sacramento as the 10th sunniest city in the the nation, with Yuma at number one and Redding at number two. Fresno is the only other California City that ranks slightly higher than Sacramento through that date. Those three Central Valley locations are the only California cities in the top 10. Yuma has 90% annual probability of sunshine, Redding 88%, Sacramento 78%. Lower ranking California cities include Los Angeles at 73%, San Diego and 68%, and San Francisco at 66%, but those are still high ranking overall. Just goes to show how cloudy most parts of the country are. Other than California's Central Valley locations, all the rest of the top 10 are deserts.

Hottest day of the week
Per google

Sacramento

109/69

Fresno

114/79

Bako
114/84

Vegas

118/87

Phoenix

117/89

Heatwave is southwest focused. Needs mentioning.

Google has been off all summer, but i have a feeling it will be close to correct this time.

Horrible stuff, but its not just the far west getting slammed

Breaking: El Paso surpassed 100 degrees for the 24th straight day on Sunday, breaking the record set in 1994. El Paso may be facing at least 2 more weeks of triple-digit temperatures.
