I lived in Miami for about 10 years, then to Virginia Beach for a short stint, then moved here to Sacramento. I like the weather much better than in Miami; nice and dry, cool nights, less bugs. I just visited my dad in Kissimmee last week and I hated the weather so much (except for the awesome thunderstorm and torrential rain. I miss those).

I was bitten 5 times by fire ants and one mosquito (surprisingly). And those "love bugs" or whatever you call them annoyed the heck out of me, too.

I've lived my whole life in either Broward County or Palm Beach County Florida. I just moved to the mountains of western Virginia, will probably be here for a year, then most likely head out to Sacramento - Carmichael actually. I don't know what the OP is talking about when he/she says there weren't many bug & critters in Florida? There are roaches the size of aircraft carriers there. The toads are poisonous. South Florida has been absolutely ruined by over development. And, the cost of living may be cheaper than California, but it is NOT cheap compared to most of the rest of the country. It used to be, but not anymore. I wouldn't go back there if I could live for free. Maybe other parts of the state are much better though.

Did you by chance pick your SN because of the Down By Law song.. Girl with the flower tattoo?

I never ever saw bugs that size and there was woods right around where I lived before in a development. I walked through the pathways with a wood bridge in the greenery right by some woods and never have I seen the crazy large things you saw.

Don't go to Carmichael whatever you do. That area is going downhill fast and declining unless you desire to be closer to Sacramento but might as well move to Sacramento in that event as its not much cheaper there, maybe its even more money to live in Carmichael.

And I will say that S Florida is getting overdeveloped and you know I thought it was getting bad out there myself but then California gave me a whole new picture of it. It is more horrible in Roseville for instance than Bradenton by a grand margin. Everywhere in Northern California seems overdeveloped next to South FL. I know shocking isn't it? Sarasota may rival Roseville with traffic but even then it may not be that bad even. I have come to highly appreciate South FL after living here.
