With the strengthening El Niño, are you worried about your homes and the flood risk in Sacramento and the surrounding area?

This year, there is not much in the way of flood risk because the reservoirs are so low. Small streams can be a problem because they are not maintained as diligently and can be full of debris.

No, I do not live in a flood zone/path or area where there is flooding during storms. I'm in Folsom.

We live about a quarter-mile away from the levee, but I'm not really worried about flooding (at least not yet!). They have been doing a lot of work to strengthen the levees, so hopefully they will hold if/when the river rises again. We do have flood insurance, although we weren't required to purchase it when we bought the house.

It's "The Blob" vs. "El Nino." There's a large area of warm ocean water in the Pacific that normally isn't there and it may interfere with what El Nino normally does.

(credit to News 10)

Climatologists aren't sure what the outcome will be. It could be lots of rain or more drought. Climate scientist David Phillips: "If that blob continues, if it stays warm ... and then you add to that El Nino, it may compliment each other and then it may be the year winter is cancelled."

Nah. I live in a high-water bungalow and I have a kick-ass canoe.

I'm a lot less worried about a flood in Sacramento than I would be about a major earthquake in the Bay area.
