I will be visiting Sacramento the last week of July for the Track and Field Junior Olympics. It will be held at Hornet Stadium. Rooms are getting limited for that week so I'm looking for a hotel soon. We will be traveling to/from the Stadium4 times during the event (at different times during the days). Due to traffic, should we stay close to the Stadium (Comfort Inn) or can we stay father out (near intersection of Sacramento and American rivers) off of Route 5? I'm not looking to sit in traffic jams, but I'm Okay with a 30-35 minute drive to the Stadium. What are your thoughts due to traffic conditions and things to do. We are a family of 5 with the kids ages between 6-10. Any thoughts or perspectives would be greatly appreciated.
-Thanks
Matt

Google maps lets you search for routes and travel times at different times of the day. You can specify your arrival (or departure) time and let google tell you how long the trip will take.

Just go to google maps (http://www.maps.google.com) and enter your starting and ending locations. When google has found a route for you, look for the drop box that says "Leave now". Click that to enter different arrival times.

Google maps's answer is probably more accurate than the personal opinions here. Of course, google will just give you an average travel time and cannot predict accidents or road repairs that might significantly impact your travel time.

To add, we are looking at the Governor's Inn as finding larger rooms for a family of 5 is getting hard to find (without paying $200/night). It seems to have decent reviews and we don't plan on hanging around the hotel all day. We've heard some great things about Sacramento so we're looking forward to it. Let me know what you recommend we add to our agenda to things to do while in town.

Traffic should not be too much of an issue, if you were staying out in Roseville, that might be an issue but generally traffic can be heavy from 3-6 pm.

You had mentioned the Governor's Inn, that's in a sketchy area of town and I would avoid that area.
Have you checked the hotels around the Cal Expo / Arden Way (by the mall) or Midtown?

I would echo Sactoslacker's concern about the Governor's Inn, which is located adjacent to the Union Gospel Mission where a lot of street people congregate. The Cal Expo/Arden area would be relatively close as well as the Comfort Inn on Power Inn & Folsom. There are also a number of motels and smaller hotels around 30th Street in Midtown.

There are lots of hotels like Fairfield Inn, Courtyard, Residence Inn etc. near Zinfandel Ave. in Rancho Cordova.
