Specifically, considering renting at Fremont Mews at P and 14th. Is that area safe? How is it on weekends? Would I be better off moving further into midtown, say, around 18th and L? Thanks

Depends on what you want. P & 14th is nice, 18th & L is nice too.

Hell, go crazy and pick higher numbers!

Are you a single woman? Is that why you wonder about safety?

No, single guy. Asking about the area because I've heard mixed things about the streets around the park. I'm really not familiar at all with downtown/midtown so I'm trying to get people's opinions. I'll be working near Capitol Square so I figured Fremont is a balance between the real downtown and the restaurants of midtown.

Oh well you'll like it - lots of new housing, new restuarants - good stuff. Don't be scared about any safety issues - I was a single girl in my mid-20s and never scared anywhere in Midtown (I lived 22nd & I)

The neighborhood around Fremont Park is pretty nice. Parking is awful (state workers during the day, nightclubbers at night) but it's easy to walk to things. Two supermarkets within three blocks, lots of restaurants. The park is currently flanked by two coffee shops (a $bux and the Naked Lounge), a local fashion/couture co-op in a century-own Queen Anne Victorian (Atelier), an Asian frozen-yogurt stand (Mochii) and a piece of public art originally built for a paint store (the paint poles, created by Saul Bass.) There is a combination Italian fashion/Italian food store getting ready to open right on the corner.

Potential safety issues: Half a block away is the 16th Street light rail station, which is where the South Sacramento/Meadowview light rail line enters the central city. The crew around there at night can look a little rough. Also, there have been fights and other incidents near Empire, a big nightclub on R and 15th. Generally pretty safe, but keep your eyes open, this isn't Mayberry.

Thank you! You both have been very helpful. Any comments on the Fremont Mews apartments? I have seen how I can do much worse but is there anything I should be worried about with this development? Any other similar places that I should be looking at instead?
