Rubicon isn't too bad... not the best burger, but not terrible.

A lot of the proposals are nice. But the bottom line is who is actually going to fund this thing? All of it just seems like a pipe dream at this point.

The only answer I know offhand is that David Taylor was promised a certain amount of redevelopment funds as a condition of the sale of the Sheraton Hotel a couple years back--he only receives the funds if they are used to construct a project in a redevelopment area. So since those funds are already encumbered and in city coffers, it could pay for a good chunk of construction. And since the Taylor project calls for the least new construction (and almost no demolition) it could be done for a smaller dollar amount than any of the other proposals.

Smaller dollars and smaller development isn't going to change anything.

And the winner is:

The council voted 5-4 in favor of a plan to back a hybrid of two plans submitted by D&S Development Company and David S. Taylor Interests, Inc. to renovate the 700 and 800 blocks of K Street.

The D&S proposal would add residential units to the 700 block, plus 37,480 square feet for retail space that could be used for boutiques, restaurants and a live music venue.

I'm glad they didn't overreach here, and settled for something that is realistic yet should be a pretty nice upgrade.

Hoorah! Can't wait to see it when it's done. It was an unresolved issue the entire time I lived in Sac, made worse by the decline of the Plaza and the access given by the RT south line. Hopefully it will be well policed when completed and there will be some overflow to spark a rebirth of the Plaza.

It really needs to draw families and having residential units right there should also help.

But where will the homeless go? Of course, that's a whole other issue.

I'm very pleased for Sacramento, as is my wife who's pretty much a lifelong Sacramentan!
