I have heard that lots of people love it down there, but that really would be a nasty commute up to California Ave (if that is the California you were referring to)

Are you looking to buy? Rent? Daybreak is supposed to be just awesome, although I haven't seen it. It wouldn't be too bad of a commute and neither would some parts of Sandy. What price range are you looking for?

In general, the schools in Sandy and South Jordan are excellent. Sandy also has one of the largest malls the state, and a lot of shopping options (although most are the typical chain stores).

Daybreak looks/seems nice. I have a friend who lives there. I live north & west of that, way out west West Jordan. DH works in the industrial park that is just south of California Ave (4800W) . I can tell you, his commute is awesome from where we live. He takes the 'back road', Rt 111, aka Bacchus Hwy & goes 60+ mph north, then east on hwy 201. The only 'hiccup' is the city of Magna. He totally misses the after work rush hour. Love it! =) Bangerter Hwy is okay too. I personally hate it w/ all the stop lights, traffic, & cops. =P But, that is me. My neighbors just sold their home. Jordan Landing, not far from me, is the largest shopping area in Utah. Anyway, love where we chose to live. =)

We are going to rent, I don't want to waste money on buying if I totally hate it. I see everyone saying things about rush hour and I don't know what you consider heavy traffic out there. I am coming from Maryland....and trust me no one can have worse rush hour than where I live (possibly LA but I'm sure we are close..lol). Like I said, the commute is on my hubby, not me, I am used to if I need to go to Walmart for something it takes me 5 min to get there and no I'm not a major shopping hog, but I do like to walk around and window shop at the malls.

You would not like Lehi, not coming from the East Coast. Too small-town, probably not a lot of outsiders, and too far from your husband's job. Stick to SLC.

Ok, lets narrow this down...whoever has kids and are non lds (but has friendly non biased lds neighbors) and who are transplants and who lives near shopping (again not worried about commute time because I'm sure the commute out there is nothing like the DC/MD region) can you tell me what neighborhoods you live in??? that would help alot better than just throwing towns out there. I am so blind sided when it comes to these areas. I have never been to Utah nor did I have a desire to live there, but I have no other choice since my husband is transferring there (my choice would have been Las Vegas, but what can one do..lol)
