Thanks for the thread. Crap, I was just planning on visiting the old location on my trip to SA this Christmas. Now I'll have to wait for a future trip.

We so need a Texas version of the Burning Man event!!!

I am not too fond of replicas but depending on the spirit of whoever is behind it my feelings vary. If it is more gimmicky I tend to frown but if done as a way to showcase other cultures, enhance an appreciation for history, or for spiritual reasons, I totally approve.

Does anyone know the reasoning behind these replicas specifically? I would love to see the originals one day but might visit these to get a taste of that.

I'll take the time to read more about this, but does anyone know if the Stonehenge was even astronomically accurate or merely for looks?...Can't wait to check out that cycle museum!

Like most monoliths the actual Stonehenge was built to be accurately aligned to certain celestial bodies and events. This was important to ancient cultures for what we would define as both religious and agricultural reasons.

I was talking about this replica in Texas, lol. Not the real thing, with which I am very familiar.

Hey, thanks for responding politely anyways. Maybe someone will know. If it is, that would be pretty impressive.

Well, all of that was on the information board at the site. If I recall, the guy was an artist and just wanted to erect something like that as a tribute to the originals and to share his art with the local community to help make Hunt stand out.

I did buy one of those miniature Stonhenges that they sell at the Barnes & Noble checkout line. So far I have yet to observe any solstices with it.
