I don't understand the appeal of that store whatsoever. Surely someone far more hip than me can explain it because honestly, I don't get it.

This is one reason why there is not an IKEA here. Locals who think IKEA = Walmart. This is similar to folks who asked why do we need an REI when we have Academy and Dick's. Not the same demographic.

You solved the mystery! One persons negative image of a chain store = all of San Antonio's impression and opinions and the sole reason a corporation hasn't put one here. Moderator cut: Off-Topic

Not sure about Ikea, but Costco is coming to the NW side in 2014 if current planning pans out....a LOT can happen between now and then, but my sources say that is true...and since Trader Joes sources panned out (19 Oct opening here in SA for those of you that REFUSED to believe), I say watch for our area 2014. Just hope it remains the Potranco/1604 area....looking forward to the CONVENIENCE, NOT the traffic it would create!

I think it might be to close to each other. Right now we have only an hour and a half drive to Round Rock, and about 2.5 hrs to Houston location.

IKEA expansion continues on schedule

Well, if the company in question thinks it's a good fit, they'll be here. It won't matter whether I or anyone else (although, I DO appreciate you finally acknowledging my far-reaching power) thinks that they should or shouldn't - they go straight by the numbers.

Having been to IKEA, I find them just as I describe - so I really don't miss 'em, nor particularly feel a "need" for them to be here to somehow complete the shopping experience in San Antonio.

Wal-Mart's food service area doesn't offer swedish meatballs, gravlax and lingonberry soda, either.

Which is quite a hike for those of us in the AR area and south.

I've been hoping for a closer one since we moved here.
