Default New Braunfels' Canyon High Paints Football Field Red!

Sorry, but this trend has got to stop!

First Boise State painted their football field blue, and it was cute for a while but now everyone's jumping on the bandwagon

Now Canyon High School in New Braunfels has painted their football field red (see atch'd pic), and I think it's pretty dang ugly!

Oregon tried something different with their new basketball arena, and it was a failure. Spectators complained of headache-inducing glare from the iridescent ribbon board lining the upper level of the newly built Matthew Knight Arena. Time will only tell if Canyon's football field induces a similar reaction, such as....

My question is, with school boards and universities crying about a lack of funds, where is the money for all this coming from? It can't be cheap, and as a taxpayer I would be very irritated if I were in that district!

Cheers! M2

UTSA is considering making the turf in their new facility orange. I hope they don't.

The Eastern Washington University Eagles did this in 2010. It must have worked against opponents, because they won their first NCAA FCS [1AA] Championship against the Deleware Fightn' Hens.

I've looked this rumor up extensively and I haven't seen an admin official, coach or City organizer advocating to change the color. It was a photoshop prank on Facebook gone wild.
Rumors....

btw - the City signed a contract with the turf supplier last year. According to the contract, they update the turf once a year [i believe] and I don't think they or Jerry Jones, would like an orange field.

I dunno if anyone else is having this issue but I feel like my eyes are going to pop out of their sockets with the bright color. Can you imagine if I was actually there? Jeez, maybe I'm just getting old.

There are some things you just shouldn't mess with. Football fields need to be green. Period!

Totally agree. I'm all for taxes that help put educated, hard working kids, into positions to be successful in life. I'm not into taxes that pay for red fields, taj mahal schools, or anything which appears frivalous. Its called public stewardship. They should teach it and employ it.

Good point. Coach Coker doesn't want it.

Well, this past Thursday, the man himself, BCS National Championship Head Coach Larry Coker (LC) made it crystal clear what he wants for his program while on ESPN 1250am with Chris Duel and Jason Minnix, "We won't have an orange filed. I'm more of a traditionalist and all for the green turf."

I would think that the reasons Boise State and E. Washington put in the strange turf were to draw TV ratings and publicity. Why does Canyon need that, since that isn't an issue for public high schools?
