With U-verse, the number of HD streams can vary depending on the customer's distance from the node. I think it's 2 or 3 streams in most cases, and can be as many as 4 HD streams in newer areas that have fiber to the premises.

I knew there was some limitation but I couldnt get a firm grasp on what it was. (I have Directv) My mom just recently got Uverse but it is just the two of them at her house so I never found out what the limit was.

Well, actually, all U-verse areas use at least FTTN, and then the existing copper the rest of the way to the customer premesis. Some of the newer areas are fully FTTP, and don't have the limitations that are present in the areas that have the hybrid fiber/copper setup.

But yes, I imagine a customer in the more common fiber/copper areas could get 4 HD streams, if they are lucky enough to be located close to the node (as the cable is routed).

i have copper . you can watch 4 hd at same time but can only record 3 hd at one time.
this is a limit due to the dvr hardware not being able to keep up
as long as you have the 32 profile you are good to go. just call and request it. doesn't cost anything
