I've been amazed how well the heat and sun loving Texas native plants are growing in this very hot weather the past few weeks. The key is feeding them properly. I have learned that if they are fed slowly they actually need much less water.

I read somewhere that the native plants bloom when they are in distress. And judging by all the blooms, there is a ton of distress.

theeddie - I fully appreciate you not wanting to ruffle any feathers with your HOA....Been There, Done That. Never forget that you are paying your dues and you have every right to seek change.

On another note you're much better off fighting /making your point with the HOA. I don't know if you have been written a ticket by the Water Police....Trust me, the second will not be a settling as the first. I know of cases where fines went from $ to $$$$$$ in a couple of quick drips.

Add to that the fact that to not allow a homeowner to xeriscape is simply outrageous!

Something I learned in my business law class: A contract that is unreasonable or requires you to do something illegal is unenforceable. It's basically void.

Aside from the legal issue, I think it's unethical that your neighborhood violates water restrictions while we're in the middle of an exceptional drought. The more water you use, the tougher the restrictions and the more law-abiding citizens have to suffer.

No way we make it to 640 ft today -- look for a press release/conference today from SAWS to see whether or not we're going into Stage 3.

Anybody happen to read the front page of the newspaper yesterday? Pretty staggering numbers. Normally from March up until this past Saturday we were supposed to have around 12 inches of total rainfall. This year has only been .88!!!!! Past four months we have only had 4 total days of rainfall that was registered!!! Poor farmers, poor people on the river, poor everybody at this point. And what is up with that HOA? I think I'd be telling them where to go if you know what I mean.

That's good that SAWS is doing what it can. Just found out that SAWS will wait for the Edwards Aquifer Authority to declare Stage 3 conservation measures. That will happen when the 10-day average falls below 640. Right now the 10-day average is 641.5 ft.
