It passed, enforcement starts Jan 2012.

People will just move up river, and their trash will still make it's way to NB.
I was wondering how they were going to get by the whole "state owns the water" rule, but according to that article it looks like they will claim protection of public drinking water, and protection of endangered species...should be interesting to see how that one plays out.

They are going to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. Port Aransas clamped down on driving on the beach, drinking, etc. and they lost millions in tourist dollars because the people just went somewhere else. New Braunfels will be no different. And I'm wondering too about how New Braunfels can regulate a river. If I don't want to rent a tube from their guys and I want to have a beverage on the river without stepping on someone's land, how can they enforce this?

It doesn't matter whose tube you're in. The cops that bike along the river looking for offenders can ticket you or kick you off the river if they see you have a prohibited container. However it is they deal with offenses right now.

I'm not even gonna gripe about this. I don't blame the city, I blame the idiots who have to ruin it for all of us. The river just gets worse and worse every single year. 75% of the people on that river have absolutely no respect for the river at all. I constantly see people treating that river like it's nothing more than a trash can.

When did this happen? When's the last time you were there? We drive on the beach all the time and drink all day and night on the beach.

It doesn't bother as much as it would have years ago because I don't go during the day anymore, infact, I haven't gone during the day in years. At night, there's no jackasses or cops.

I hope it makes these jerks go a long, long away to ruin the waterways! I approve!

NEW BRAUNFELS CANS THE BEER CANS
As expected, the city council of New Braunfels voted last night to prohibit the use of any type of disposable container within city limits — including the beer cans that regularly pile up underwater on stretches of the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers popular with tubers. The new ordinance is scheduled to go into effect next January: “The ban was approved – on a 5-1 vote."

I should clarify. You can still drive on the beach, just not as close(or in) to the Gulf as you once could.
