SAPD: Officer fatally shoots man while protecting ex-roommate | kens5.com San Antonio

Ok, we have an ON DUTY, officer giving his "ex-roommate" a ride home, in a police cruiser. (I didn't know they did that, hell I won't walk anywhere again) Then, the new ex-boyfriend starts shooting at a police cruiser? Seems like there was some previous history there. Then the ex roommate police officer returns fire, killing the new ex-boyfriend. Makes you wonder what might have happened if the on duty police officer hadn't given her a ride home? could be the ex roommate might have gotten shot and killed, not just wounded, or, maybe not. this really needs to be investigated completely and explained why the police officer was involved prior to the shooting.

I'll preface this by saying I'm not a fan of SAPD but the story and yer version are not the same. I see a police officer who more than likely asked permission to escort the lady home because she feared for her life from her ex boyfriend. She obviously had good reason too. She was shot while in the police car apparently and the officer shot and killed the shooter, and justifiably so. But I can tell you this, SAPD has always investigated any shootings and killings by it officers and they don't attempt to cover anything up. Whatever the investigation finds will be the truth. The way I see it, we now are one less, out of control dimwit with a gun, who needed to die before he killed even more people.

Quit with the conspiracy theories already, anyone who shoots at a police officer deserves the same response!

All police shootings in Texas go before a Grand Jury, but given the details given in this thread it would initially appear to be a clean shoot on the officer's part. It doesn't matter who he has in the car, why they were in there or what they were doing; shooting at a police officer normally generates the same reaction!

And guess what, had he shot at any other armed, law-abiding citizen it would probably also result in the same response!

I wish the woman involved a quick and full recovery.

If you are crazy enough to shoot at a police car you are pretty much begging for death. I'm with the above two poster's about one less nut job running around with a gun. As to why the girl was in the car or if she was suppose to be in the car we will find out.

The thing that seems odd is no where in the story did he call for back up before following the suspect to his house for the final shoot out. That seems pretty odd to me.

Situation here seems more personal than job related but either way, I agree also that anyone who shoots at a cop should expect the same back. Moderator cut: Off-Topic

I am glad the woman is ok.

I'm not sure if the officer violated any policies doing a personal errand while on duty. The bottom line is that the officer did not have a choice but to return fire once that idiot ex boyfriend started shooting. I guess he had a death wish. If I'm not mistaken, a police officer is never really "off duty". He or she must intervene if they witness a crime in progress even when they are not at work.

Well what he wrote was different than what I read on KSAT. Then again that story didn't match up with what I read on KENS either.
