I'm also just trying to picture some ideal paths like this. Maybe a smaller town? Since you can't really walk on people's property it would need to be an area inside the town but in an undeveloped place, correct? Like a greenbelt? Or just some place with lots of greenery. Vacant lots? I still picture parks older parks closer to the center of town.

Going to be difficult to pin down ideal but maybe they already are in their simplicity. Smaller towns might have ones through more woody areas that see lots of foot traffic.

Definitely think that briefly serene and semi-secluded will have to be in a park so going to keep an eye out for that.

Here are four more.

5. A desire path leaving Sunny Slope toward a private road (can't explore this one) leading to a cell phone tower.

6. Shortcut from the corner of Broadway and Parland into Mahncke Park toward Funston.

GMC: 29.457860, -98.467405

7. Footpath behind Trader Joe's (old West Elm furniture store). Starts at Basse Rd. and ends at a wood fence gate between Trader Joe's parking lot and the Quarry Golf Course parking lot. The gate is locked on the golf course side so this desire path might fade away if no longer in use.

8. Desire path from Magic Dr. to the Sage Crossing Apartments. Looks somewhat interesting due to its length. It runs its course alongside a ditch.

I think some of the narrow ones like that were started by bicyclers.

I looked at the overhead of that one (by Magic) and it leads to a string of electrical towers. You will always find paths along those towers which are found in greenbelts all over the city. People like to walk and ride their bicycles along them. So that appears to be a side path leading to that path, I believe.

Those are actually ditches that lead to the string of electrical towers. The ditches are also perfect places to run the power lines over.

If following that particular desire path using the aerial view in Google Maps it can be seen that one has to actually cross a ditch before entering the apartment property and on the other side of the ditch the trail continues but also fans out depending on which direction one went into the apartments or came out of.

There is another footpath in the same apartment complex connection one phase to the other and it crosses over the ditch again. GMC: 29.501546, -98.553675
