Not that I'm a perfect angel, I'll grab my phone every once in a while to see if anyone has texted me while waiting at long lights (like at Bandera and 410) but otherwise it stays in my purse. (Is someone going to come and ticket me by me admitting that?)
Yes. Big brother sees you type.

I get that. I would hope that they see enough of the outcome of people using phones in ways that violate the law that they wouldn't flout it like that. If this LEO was conversing with a fellow officer or his dispatcher, there's no way the conversation was about work stuff. He was wayyyy too happy about it.

I assume the point of the exemption was to enable them to discreetly use a handheld phone on the job. If they're just going to use it to call a buddy on work time, maybe the exemption is exposing the city to unnecessary risk?

That was my point with the entire concept - if it's too dangerous for us mere mortals to do, it should be too dangerous for ANYONE to do. This isn't about being pro or anti-cop - it's about being equal.

Even if LEO weren't exempt do you think they would go after each other for it? Especially if they "don't have the manpower to enforce it" already?
