Just curious about everyone's thoughts on the Nextdoor app (Nextdoor.com). Or does your neighborhood have an alternative service, FB page, text or email list, or forum? I imagine experiences vary depending on the neighborhood.

They tried it in our neighborhood......flopped big time. Got annoying with their constant "reminders"......

I use it up here in the DFW area. It seems to go in spurts. ...sometimes it's really active and then sometimes no one will post for a couple of weeks. I am moving back to SA soon and I'll probably look and see if there's a group for my neighborhood. I sell a lot of things on Facebook when I have a need to. It's better than Craigslist in terms of safety and less kooks.

Yes, my neighborhood is using it and our HOA uses it to communicate with the neighborhood. It works well for us. By far the most popular topic in our neighborhood is lost pets. SAPD SAFFE officers are on there and they do a nice job of communicating when there are noteworthy crime trends in our part of town. My boss's neighborhood is out in the county and he says the Sheriff's department isn't on Nextdoor, but the county Emergency Management department is there, and lately he says they're communicating updates about flooding.

Some of the leads in nearby neighborhoods aren't pulling their weight at eliminating spam. I don't want to hear from people in those neighborhoods who sell insurance or real estate and Nextdoor doesn't allow unsolicited self-recommendations, so I report those posts.

We are using it in the Canyon Springs area. It's fairly active, with a good amount of lost pets, etc. However, it's also being used for recommendations for contractors, etc. I actually just signed up with a painter who was recommended on the site. Right now, I find it fairly interesting and valuable. I get one email a day, and I can review it and determine if anything's interesting and worth looking further.

It's pretty active in my neighborhood too. You have to learn how to turn off the notifications or the first time there's an argument, you'll get overwhelmed with notifications.

We have that going on right now and it's a bummer.
