thank you both for the info

any particular parking lot better than the others? Last time I went was in 2002 or 2003 and it was still at the Freeman. I also rode in a van because we were volunteers, so I didn't have to deal with parking. It was also freaking freezing and that has not been the case at all this year.

we went last week and parked in a lot across from the Carnival area. It was $10. The walk up to the entrance was not bad at all, and leaving was really easy. We turned onto Houston, then they funneled us down Coca Cola Pkwy (I think) and we came back up Commerce to 281.

I screwed up and didn't listen to TomTom when he said to turn left off that at&t center parkway or whatever that exit off 35 is. So I had to go down a little more and make a left turn through hell. I've seen bad areas, but this one was by far the worst and there were so many packs of dogs just laying in people's front yards. awful, Awful area and obviously full of responsible adults..
anyhow, I got to E. Houston and had to make a left in front of nothing but rude people. I ended up having to just go, because nobody was going to let me in. I saw the parking by the fair, but they were crammed in like sardines and I did not want to get stuck there when they parked people in front of people, plus it was $10 and that was the price of the real fairground parking. I then made a turn into a lot that was not for regular people and had to get back on E. Houston. Every other lot after that said commercial vehicles or permit required and I found that to be a load of BS. The rodeo website lists plenty of parking and doesn't mention that almost all of it is reserved. However, when I turned around and went the other way I found that the parking was public if you drove east on E. Houston. Freaking retarded, but that's to be expected I guess...
So I finally got a spot somewhere near Detroit and walked to the grounds and it got quite a bit better. We went in the petting area and the shops area before the show. The seats were beyond sweet and we had access to whatever that club thing is. We ended up being six rows from the ground in section 24. We didn't know that there was a bunch of rodeo stuff before the concert, so that was an added bonus. That stuff is a million times more insane in real life.. and there were some pretty up close and personal moments. That wagon thing carried by those giant black horses slammed up against the wall when they did the high speed run and the first two rows where we were got showered in dirt. Those horses were very impressive looking.
the actual concert didn't start until around 10:30 PM and we didn't exactly plan on staying that late. He was a lot better than I was anticipating and sounded really good for a live show. I only know Achy Breaky Heart, but I think I've heard that Some Gave All before. He also sang Van Morrison's Brown Eyed Girl and there's a few others that sounded really good (Somebody Said a Prayer is one I would actually pay money for). He has a lot more rock than I was expecting and his band Sly Dog is very good. Achy Breaky Heart was last and he has really improved it a lot. It's now much more rock and there was absolutely nobody doing that line dance thing (that's a in my book) It was definitely worth the parking fiasco (although they REALLY need to fix that, or at least clarify it) and we both left with an appreciation for his talent that neither of us had before.
The three funniest parts were Leon Brown (clown), the little kids doing the mutton race, and all the little kids that were enjoying the concert because he is Hannah Montana's dad.

a drawing where she works at SeaWorld. I guess a vendor gave them to an employee and that employee actually paid attention during ethics training and turned the tickets over to the company. Nice to see at least a few people using ethics these days
