There's a new map posted at MySA.com showing the location and details of every SAPD use of department tasers (broken link) since they were first issued back in December of '06.

Wow that's great! In a little over a year Tasers have saved almost 100 lives. That's 99 people that SAPD would have had to otherwise use deadly force on. How does that compare with how many people SAPD had to kill in the years before Tasers were introduced.

It's great that they keep such detailed records about the use of tasers. They are a valuable tool in the police officer's hands - It's amazing to see the times when it had to be used more than a single time - at first glance there are a lot of those that are arrests for cocaine related offenses... one of those was hit five times! I also saw several where there was no actual use - I wonder how they document that - is that if they threaten to use it and the suspect complies?
