San Antonio is generally ranked as one of the more affordable cities to live in based on housing prices and the lack of state income tax. But according to LendingTree study, people in San Antonio are living beyond their means. In fact, of 50 largest metro areas, San Antonio ranked in the top spot.

However, I can't see it so clearly by checking the stats on the table.

Anecdotally, I don't think SA would have nearly so many payday loan places, in every corner of the city, if a bunch of its citizens weren't living beyond their means. I've never seen more of those places anywhere else I've visited or lived.

I'm not saying it's the only indicator, but it has to be an indicator that debt is an issue.

And that still despite the city’s ordinance, which took effect in 2013, limiting the size of payday loans and auto-title loans.

(A new dollar store has opened in the country at a pace of once every four and a half hours for the last four years.)

San Antonio is tale of two cities. Don’t be like the the people mentioned in the article.

I believe it. Many young people/students driving their expensive Mercedes-Benz, BMWs, and Audi’s, still living with their parents, and working retail jobs.

Which the city had no business getting involved with, IMO. You can't force folks to make wise financial choices - just look at how many opt for 5, 6 & 7 year car notes.
