Wow...I'll believe that when I see it...if there was any room downtown to build anything at all, I think the voters of the city would DEMAND additional streets to get around on!

I'm surprised that a progressive, skyscraper-lovin', sophisticated, liberal, educated city would want to follow in our footsteps.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

The Riverwalk is original to S.A. It's what makes this city unique. Doesn't Austin have enough uniqueness of it own?!? I mean I love Austin because it has such a different vibe from S.A, but I love S.A for that very same reason.

The original poster in this thread couldn't be more off base and less factual with the title. Whatever is happening, firstly isn't beginning construction for 7-10 years. Also, it's not going to be anything like SA's Riverwalk, it may be close to OKC's Bricktown canal but even that's pushing it. It'll be very small and won't be anything near as dense as San Antonio. To call it a Riverwalk would be very insulting.

Wonder where the funding is going to come from since it wouldn't be an Army Core project.

Is this about that Seaholm thing or whatever it is? I haven't kept up with Austin much since it decided to transform itself into Charlotte, NC-lite.

SA, I guess Austin is trumping us when it comes to major developments here. Its a shame we are getting only Mickey Mouse projects downtown compared to Austin. We definitely have the corporate presence but everything is built away from downtown. I believe in the conservation society but I think it has outlived its usefulness in modern day downtown San Antonio. Like or not everyone is competing to get our tourist dollar and we better shape up before our market share decreases.
