I almost stopped reading when I saw Subway had the best subs, but seeing Taco Cabana, Red Lobster and Olive Garden on the list put the nail in the coffin. Are you serious?!

I agree, the people voting for these are obsessed with mass-marketed chains and its shameful.

I'm sure they're the same people that ask the DJ to play Soldier Boy and C'mon Ride The Train at the club...

I would attribute some of the chain votes to lazy voters. There are dozens of other categories I didn't list in other sections of this poll. For instance, there was a whole section of different types of bars, which included the category "Meat Market," defined by Wikipedia as "a place where one goes for a casual... encounter." (You can go look up the omitted word at wikipedia if you can't guess it.) Apparently the Culebra Meat Market and similar establishments that sell meat got so many votes in this category that the Current felt the need to split the results for this category into bars and meat markets.

For burgers, Texas Hamburger Co. should be at the top of the list. Also, Milano's should be up there for Italian food.

Texas Hamburger Company! Awesome burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches!

Is Milano's on Bandera or Wurzbach?

heh. it's the one I listen to every morning, taking the kids to school. 'cept Thursdays, then it's just as I'm in the van by myself.

Have to say tho, there are some on the list that I agree with! The Cove got several "wins" and that's totally justified!! And of course you know that I agree with Green getting best Vegetarian options! And Mike getting one of the top chef spots!! Fabulous! Ironic ~ one day while I was at Green, Mr. #1 Chef himself was dining there!!! Along with his beautiful wife and positively adorable little one. Awwwwwwww......

(back to watching STP videos and looking forward to 6/27 now!!)

I used to like Lisle and Hahn.. but some of the things said on the show really offended me and I stopped listening.

(I'm not overly sensitive or anything .. you should have just listened that morning! If you really want to know, DM me.. it's probably not appropriate for the thread)

Why is the Current not on the same tier with the Austin Chronicle? Benjamin is right on. I think we need to vote over

Best Steakhouse- Being from N.O. it is hard to vote against Ruth Chris since it started there.

Best restaurant on the river(excluding Biga) is Budro

Best Seafood-???? It is not Sea Island

We've already determined that it's not the reader's choice results that mean anything--the food critic's choices are more realistic.
