Okay I know this was mentioned a few threads ago -- but I REALLY need to find a highly recommended OBGYN in the STONE Oak area that will take my Blue Cross Blue Shield. I am new to the area and went to a clinic outside of town a week ago. When he asked why I chose his clinic I mentioned because he accepted my insurance. I mentioned I had an appt with Dr. King in Stone Oak, but that clinic is no longer accepting BC/BS and he went into a sermon about not getting paid what he was due and not being able to pay his bills due to BC/BS only paying him an amount near Medicaid premium and basically made me feel like somebody looking for a soup kitchen or something.

His staff gave me an appt time and then called to confirm with yet a different time on my answering machine. I couldn't call back as I work late at night and so was forsed to show up at the 8:30am time they left on my machine. I was there at 8:20 and the doors were locked till about 8:35 and then I sat for an hour (the original time they gave me) and waited. Went in the exam room and waited another 1/2 hour. Finnally the nurse came and had me undress and I waited another 20 minutes. The office was slow and he even mentioned he didn't have much business and after the treatment I recieved I know why....

He continued to berate my insurance for most of the visit and then went on to say that Aetna is about to follow suit and limit its pay as well. All these things are beyond my control as I am just a patient trying to get quality care and can't control what my insurance is or isn't paying to OBGYN's.

I need additional testing that he refused to perform that day as he stated my insurance would not cover it if performed while doing an "annual" exam and tried to get me to come back in a week. He was very unprofessional and I really have a problem that I don't know what is causing it and don't know whom to go to. I prefer a female.

I have never discussed insurance matters with a doctor--his staff, yes, but never the doctor. BCBS has a website to locate a doctor by zip code, specialty, etc. Have you used that? I just used it the other day--once for me, and once for my son, who is on a different BCBS plan than I am.

I would also report that dr to BCBS. He shouldn't be talking about that to you.

I also have BC/BS. I had an appointment with Dr. Murdock with NE OBGYN last week. I talked to her about how upset I was that her office wasn't taking my insurance anymore. I really love her and every other doctor and nurse in the office. She said that a lot of OBGYNs aren't taking BC/BS anymore and that BC/BS had called her office recently to see if they could work something out. She told me to check back in July to see if anything has changed. I hope they are able to work something out because I don't want to find a new doctor.

It was discussed as he asked how I cam to choosing his practice and I mentioned I had to cancel with Dr. King because of the BC/BS problem and he ran with it from there.

I know I can go to BC/BS site and find a provider--However I would like to get a referral from somebody that is very satisified with the care of a Dr. than to just pick one that is one a list and hope it's a good one--especially after the bad experience I had last week....

Thanks for trying to help...

gotcha
Well, what's the point of having a glowing referral, and then calling/going to the website and discovering they don't take your insurance? That would seem maddening to me, but go for it.

Well, my son is on a different BCBS plan than I am, and since mine is from out-of-state, our doctors don't overlap.

Good luck trying to find a doctor this way.
