So, what are your thoughts on sobriety check points here in SA?

They are supposed to vote on this in January...(I THINK).

How do we follow where this is etc... and what we can do to support or not support it?

Thanks!

This is supposed to be happening at the state level, right?

Yes, currently sobriety checkpoints have been illegal since 1994 under Texas' interpretation of the US Constitution; but efforts have been made in Austin to change that. SB 298 was passed by the Texas Senate in March 2009, but nothing else ever came from it (it was left pending in committee).

Similar legislation has been introduced at almost every legislative session since 2003, and has failed every time. Whether it will change or not this time around is anyone's guess, but I wouldn't count on it.

About the only thing that directly affects SA on this is the last proposed bill only applied to cities/metro areas with populations >500K...

They better leave me alone. I heard that they can manipulate the testers to lie and make them give false readings just so they can get your DWI money.

Disgusting. Abhorrent.

Life? I dunno. Just because they use certain "tools" doesn't mean that those tools are reliable. I guarantee you that some people who were under .08 were accused of being over it via faulty equipment.

That is simply UNACCEPTABLE!

But it's NOT illegal to drink and drive in Texas....

It's illegal to be "over the limit"

It honestly will not surprise me if it indeed does eventually happen in San Antonio:
