Club Rio actually has drawn some fairly well known electro/dance djs lately.

Coming up is Chris Lake and Benny Benassi (Benny is mostly known for the "Satisfaction" song/video with the hot women using power tools in slow motion )

Just recently, Deadmau5 and Infected Mushroom were there.

I have not actually been to this place yet, so can't vouch for the crowd and/or sound system, but I haven't heard anything negative....yet. I am definitely planning on seeing Benassi though.

dang benassi's coming? cool. club rio is cool. the nights i've been there have more of a mexican/monterrey kind of crowd, but i think it varies depending who's playing.

if you're looking for Drum and Bass music, the scene here has slowed down quite a bit from a few years ago.
There are still events that take place on Friday's at the Heights and occassionally at Salute on St. Mary's on Friday's/Saturdays.
Check your PM's in a few and I'll send ya some info.

I haven't been to The Saint for years, but I remember it playing hard techno. It's a mostly gay club, I'm not gay, just went to dance & had a good time.

Not sure what it's like now, you might want to check it out.

The Saint and Heat (both gay clubs) are more Diva-Vocal House music places and not really up on the hardcore scene. I had to beg-borrow-and-steal back in the day to have them play Speed Garage. Their DJs always looked at me like 'what the hell is that' when I asked about it...

I'd recommend Limelight on St Marys. They play some great mashups and while they don't bring in major name DJs, you can see some fantastic up-and-comers who don't charge an arm-and-a-leg (and are usually just as good).

Rumor has it that Cowboys will be getting a visit from Armand Van Helden early this year as well. Benassi doesn't do much for me, but the last time I saw Helden in Houston (circa 1998), he was AWESOME.

Limelight's not too bad, I've been there a few times, I spin electro (for fun), and my only gripe is the dj - good song selection, but no mixing/blending ability whatsoever. But the last time I went (few weeks back) they had someone new that knew how to use a mixer....

I stumbled on a spot called Red Eye a few months ago, the music there was some of the best I've heard in SA...

Where do you guys find out about dj's coming in down? And good to hear that I'm not the only one that is into electronic music out here....

I usually find out about upcoming shows through groovetickets.com

Red Eye, huh? Is that the place on Broadway, just outside the loop (used to be Broadway Bar)? What kind of music were they playing, and what night was it? Might have to stop in there again soon...

Yup, it's the old Broadway Bar. I have been on Wednesday-Friday and they play techno, dance, remixed hip hop etc...

The only thing about that place is that it is dead a lot of times I have been there. It used to be real busy on Wednesday nights when they had iron bartending competitions.
