District 8 Councilwoman Diane Cibrian has announced that she's exploring a run for mayor (http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/citycouncil/stories/MYSA042408.01B.cibrian.35ae1cb.html - broken link) of San Antonio in 2009. Thus far her most famous accomplishment discussed here has been preventing the Boobie Rock nightclub from opening on IH-10. The article linked in the first sentence discusses how she is passing out Fiesta pins emblazoned with "Cibrian in '09." (The year, not the zip code. )

I've attended a couple of public meetings at which she has been present and observed how she enthusiastically "works the room," so this revelation doesn't surprise me.

Others rumored to be considering a run are ex-developer and philanthropist Gordon Hartman, former councilman and mayoral candidate Julian Castro and District 1 Councilwoman Mary Alice Cisneros.

Bill Greehey should run Hopefully we will get to pick from a great set of candidates. San Antonio is experiencing booming times and the next mayor we elect can affect whether it continues or not.

That's why she's been keeping her name in the media so much as of late.

After her interview by J Pags, I will not vote for her. She had a hollier than thou stance. This was a while back by the way.

For the longest time I watched all these Gordon Hartman Foundation commercials and thought it was quite nice of him to do such a thing, then I got to better understand how he gets tax breaks and such for these foundation things. In the mean time, he is getting a lot of exposure for himself as a leader in the community and I just knew there had to be some political office being planned in the future. Nothing against his philanthropic efforts - in fact kudos to him. But if he in fact does go the political route, starting as mayor with goals toward congress or senate, he sure has put a lot of long range planning into it.

And I definitely would vote for Hartman over that piece of work, Diane Cibrian.

That is important to me as well. Does anyone know her position on this subject?

In 5 minutes of research I found that she cites the eventual synchronizing of traffic lights in the city as a major accomplishment. She ran for council on a platform of cutting property taxes. She seems to like road projects, so I doubt she'd be opposed to transit.
