Can anyone tell me when is the time of year to go to the Bexar CO. Tax Appraiser to dispute current property value estimations for the tax year? Thanks

In April or May when you get your appraisal.

I believe it is May 1. Go to www.bcad.org to research for sure.

You should receive a new property appraisal for 2010 some time after March 1st. (Lately they seem to be coming in after May 1st, but BCAD might get its act together.) Anyway, along with your appraisal you'll get info on the protest, including a deadline. I recommend protesting on the grounds of market value (you'll need a realtor to tell you what houses have been selling for) AND repairs (take pictures of everything that needs fixed - rotten wood, cracks, etc. you get the idea).

I filed the homestead exemption for 2010 taxes. How do I know if the exemption will be included for the appraised value. New home, nothing shown for 2009 or on the 2010 years on the bcad website. Filed the form in October this year.

They're pretty good about reflecting your homestead exemption (which saves you about $250 a year and keeps them from jacking your appraisal value through the roof). Some time around February/March the info for your house will appear on the BCAD website; they seem to update by area so it depends on where you live. Start checking on-line in February, and if you don't see your exemption give them a call.
