Well, the family finally made it down here to San Antonio last night from Massachusetts. Things are good so far, and we're glad to be here.

Unfortunately, the house we had signed a lease for ended up not being as good of a deal as we thought. The landlord hadn't lived in the house for 9 months or so, and it looks like Scorpions have moved in and taken up residence. I've never seen a Scorpion before yesterday. There were a few dead ones and we thought there was a dead one in the middle of our Master bedroom, but as soon as we went to pick him up with a Napkin he came alive. Exterminators are coming out today.

Also, it seems that the previous owner did not have a Dryer, and had the dryer vent hole sheetrocked over. She said she will have someone take a look at it today or tomorrow, but that's a huge deal if it's not available

Other than that, we're glad to be here. We tried out Cheddar's last night, and there was no wait, because we got there so late. Great Atmosphere and good food. However, not a fan of their steaks. Mine came out okay, but was covered in some steak seasoning, and my wife's came out well well done when it was ordered medium. We got a new steak, but those shouldn't be hard to manage

Maybe we'll try Whataburger today or some other local spots for lunch and dinner today. Unfortunately the Government isn't moving my items until mid-week next week, so we're sort of bumming it in a house with nothing to do for the next week or so... and the weather reports show hail and thunderstorms this afternoon.

Did you go through a realtor or rent directly from the owner? We will be in a similar situation in a few months and don't want to get into something that's not going to work out for us in the long run...

Welcome!

Also, while you want to get rid of them, the scorpions around here are nothing like the ones in the desert. The sting from these are only of concern if the victim has a reaction. Still, you don't want them in your house!

Plus, I believe today's weather has blown thru; so try to get out and see some more of the local highlights. It beats sitting in an empty house (trust me, we've been there!).

Cheers! M2

We went with a Realtor, but they are not a Management company. The owner is taking care of things from California... and doing a decent job at it, but not quick enough for someone on the receiving end (us).

My advice is find a house with a management company for sure.

Verio - WELCOME to San Antonio - you have arrived in this area at a particularly BEAUTIFUL time of year, thanks to winter rainfall - with our wildflowers in full bloom!!! Maybe you and the family can take a drive out south of town and enjoy seeing those!!! There are lots of great parks in SA as well - with playgrounds for the kiddos to enjoy while Mom and Dad enjoy some quiet time on a bench nearby Some great libraries too! And if you get near the Witte Museum, there is a HUGE dinosaur outside right now - advertising their dinosaur exhibit inside - but the kids might enjoy seeing the one outside if they like dinosaurs

Sounds like you might be on the west side of the city and likely near O.P. Schnabel Park? If so - that's a GREAT park for kids - and there is a HUGE YMCA facility there on the park grounds:

Sorry about the scorpions - I dislike those little beggars too......and in our experience - they can be hard to get rid of....

Anyway - all that to again say WELCOME!!! Glad you all made the trip without any issues! Enjoy getting to know your area and finding local favorite places for you and your family!!!

Pest control will take care of the scorpions in short order. I would go through cupboards, furniture, and any other nice hiding spots to see if there are any more.

Not having a dryer vent is probably a code violation......at any rate it's not hard to cut a hole to create one (not your responsibility) so it should be a relatively easy fix.

Welcome and good luck!

Since you're arriving from Mass....I'll give you a "wicked" welcome. Everyone I've ever known from that state overuses that word.

Glad ya'll made it safe n sound. Bienvenidos a San Antonio!

Welcome! Sorry about your less than great welcome to the city. We moved here from NY almost 4 years ago, but I am Massachusetts born and raised. Although I don't know that much about the city yet (we don't leave the far West side that much), I'd love to help you as much as I can. DM with any ?s or advice.
