We are moving to this area from NC for my DH's job. He will be working in Rancho Cucamonga. Is it worth the extra commute time from Rancho Cucamonga to drive to Apple Valley to live every day or should we live in Hesperia? We are in need of land , at least 1 acre. We would prefer 2 acres as he and my DD want to have goats again. We had goats here in NC but had to leave them behind. We need a 4 bedroom 2.5 bath house 2000+ sq feet.
The houses in Apple Valley seem to be on bigger plots for less money than an similar house in Hesperia. Finally, the view in Apple Valley seems to be nicer than the view in Hesperia. I have one son who is in high school.

Thanks to all who take the time to answer.

Melissa

The 10 to 12 miles wouldn't make that much difference.

He's going to get real tired of the drive through Cajon Pass, whether you settle in Hesperia or Apple Valley. And with the current gas prices ... he'll be driving 70 to 100 miles round trip. Better put that in your budget!

I agree with the previous poster. You would be saving about 15 minutes each way from Hesperia vs Apple Valley. The drive will get pretty tedious especially when you hit fog.

You might try looking in the foothill community of Lytle Creek. Northeast of Rancho Cucamonga, but on the south side of Cajon Pass.

I also wanted to say that I have a high school student who really wants to attend the Encore Performing arts HIgh School in Hesperia. Is there any other high schools like that in another area ? I am certainly willing to listen as we have no idea of what we are doing.

Thanks

Melissa

I've commuted that far for a previous job and the cost of gas alone would put me off of a one way commute of 35 to 50 miles. I no longer like having a commute that long as it takes so much away from your day.

So how long does it really take to get to Hesperia from Rancho Cucamonga? According to google maps, it is 30 minutes. Is that not accurate? google maps says45 min to most places in apple valley. Is that not accurate either? I looked in Lytle Creek area and found nothing with acreage.

He had a 90 minute commute here in NC and we thought that he would have less than half of that in CA.

It all depends on the time of day you are commuting. If you commute at the same time as everybody else then it will be a lot longer. There are a lot of people from Hesperia/Victorville that commute everyday.
