Hi everyone,

I am moving to the area for my Fiance's job. We were looking to live in a city close to Ft Irwin but I heard pretty bad things about Barstow which is the closest city. We dont mind moving a little farther so we are thinking either Victorville or Apple Valley. I had read the posts about both cities but they are almost the same about both. I just need to some feedback on which town is better to live at in terms of safety, entertainment (I read they are both boring) apartment renting since Im not buying a house there for now, which areas are better to live and rent and Im a nurse so it would be nice if there was a nice hospital or clinic closed by.

Any feedback will be welcomed.

Thanks

Apple Valley is far ahead of Victorville. There are good and bad areas in both. I have been in AV for over three years and love it. It is a little more expensive, and upscale than VV.
The area has several good hospitals and there are medical facilities everywhere. A qualified nurse should be able to pick the job of her choice in a quick hurry.

I agree that Apple Valley is the better area BUT ... if you're going to be commuting to the 15 every day, you may want to make sure it's something closer.

A friend of mine bought a house in Apple Valley that was really far from the 15 and regretted it because she didn't realize how long it would take her to get to the 15 every day.

Thank you all for the Reply. I was wondering if you guys can recomend me good areas to find an apartment in both AV and VV. We are going to take a look at Mountain Vista Apartments at Nisqualli Rd in VV as soon as we get there. Is that a good place? Any sugestions on ohter apartments we should consider?

We lived at Mountain Vista for about 6 mos. last year. It's very close to the 15 freeway (big plus)...It's your average apts. really depends on what your looking for. I would say the average tentant was probably upper low income, if that makes sense. Personally, I couldn't wait to get outta there...and now I can't wait to get outta Victorville altogether...there's some decent areas off of Roy Rodgers exit (Brentwood,Greentree). Apple Valley would be a long commute to Ft. Irwin, but here are some nice areas there. Another spot to try, although, it would be a commute to the freeway as well, would be Spring Valley lake in Victorville nice homes for cheap rent and they are near a lake.

My own personal choice would be Apple Valley! I know where the Mtn Vista apts are, my daughter used to live there many years ago (about 5 years). But she moved out, as its gotten pretty bad even back then. The high number of parking lot vandalism, crime rates, drug deals going on right there in broad daylight...and its a gated community!

Be prepared to sit in traffic for 45 to an hour on Bear Valley Road if you need to get from AV to the freeway and vice versa.

Apple Valley rd now has been completed, so you can go all the way to the freeway, and you never get near Bear Valley road. so if you follow that route, Barstow isn't too far any more..
