My name is Monique. I‘m an 18 year-old girl from Germany. Before applying for university I‘d like to visit the United States. I like getting to know other cultures and I hope to improve my English. Therefore I‘m looking for an host family. In return I could work as an au pair, or pay for the lodging. And of course you can always come to our apartments in Germany. If you are intrested (and you want more information) or if you know someone who could help me please write me a short answer. Thank you!!!

That's wonderful... I have an uncle who lives in Australia.

If you're worried about the various commutes, one thing you might actually find interesting is the CalTrans website. It's the website the California Department of Transportation has and it covers California as a whole. One of the tabs off the main page is titled "Travel." From there, they actually have quite a few live traffic web cams. If you choose a "point A" and a "Point B," just set your clocks to Pacific time and tune in. It might give you a realistic idea of how long it's going to take to travel from an area near the beach to Riverside.

A word of caution, if you really have your heart set on living near the beach, be forewarned... the toll of commuting daily for your husband will begin to show very quickly. An 8-hour work day compounded by commuting 2 hours each way will not leave much time for the family.

Good luck to you and your family... what a wonderful adventure you're in for!

From the beach to Riverside, on a good day, is an hour drive one way. I recommend looking into some areas of Riverside, such as Woodcrest and Canyon Crest. I also recommend both Corona and Norco, as both are fairly close to Riverside. Temecula is nice too, but the drive would be hectic. Redlands is okay, but again traffic. At least with Corona or Norco, you are driving in the opposite direction of the traffic during your commute. I go to Riverside often and live in Norco. takes me about 15-20 minutes to get there, even at 5 PM, which is high traffic time here.
