Yes, I suppose the OP just doesn't really have a grasp on how So. Cal is set up.

There are "pockets" of affluence and squalor ALL OVER...

One city might have upper middle-class, but only a stone's throw away really may be someone's idea of a ghetto.

And you can't really go by the name of the city, some place with a fancy sounding name: "Baldwin Park" might be a pretty rough neighborhood.

But many cities, sometimes you just turn the corner and find a nice little enclave... a little "tropical" cul-de-sac, a little oasis of cool...

I grew up all over So. Cal, lived there for almost 30 years before moving here to Seattle 30 years ago, so my impressions might be a bit dated.

My elementary school years were spent very happily in San Bernardino, we lived in the northern section, right on Sierra Way just south of 34th street.

Think of "Wonder Years" middle-class, lots of tract homes, but also some rather fine homes in the mix.

I go on Google Earth frequently and my old neighborhood, all the way over to Shandin Hills has not changed much at all that I can see.

The old Boulevard market is gone, my schools have those portable buildings, but for the most part it is intact!

We moved around a lot for awhile there, started in Glendale, moved to Rowland Heights, then San Bernardino, then West Covina... and I used to drive a delivery van in school and really started seeing So. Cal, all the way from San Diego up to around Santa Maria and everything in between.

While this vid is kind of stylized and idealized, it DOES represent So. Cal in so many ways, at least it did at the time this vid was made, I can't imagine it changing that much though, even after 30 years I've been away.

You know what I miss guys, and I've talked to other transplants that say the same thing...

THE FOOD!

Gawd it took them a long time to get a Carl's Jr up here!

And they just don't quite "get it" when it comes to Mexican food, (but it's not as bad as East Coast Mexican food, lol!)

Thx

What's wrong with the IE?

Simple: overpopulation. Too many people!

That’s a fact! Traffic is nuts now and they are building scads of new homes. There’s lots more homeless ruining things too, lots more in my area since 2009 ish- Riverside and San Bernardino have more freebie programs so they are being overrun.
The summers are hot but really quite bearable if you have a nice pool.

Well as long as people continue to move into California or to the IE,the home building and population growth will continue.
